Playaways

I was wondering how customers have reacted to using Playaway. Has it worked? Did they enjoy using it? Any other comments they made about it: too small, batteries not lasting long enough, etc.

25 comments:

  1. Have not tried it as of yet, but it looks very neat.

  2. I personally tried a playaway. While I enjoyed listening to the book, I was annoyed at the frequency of changing batteries! Enjoy 23things! kate t.

  5. 9/2/09 I registered my blog but in trial and error I created two blogs, only one is mentioned on the participants side for Montgomery County. I had trouble figuring out what to write in the "Comment as:" space. My first post was about Playaways. I was excited when everything came together and I had my very own blog.

  6. 9/14/09 I loffed on to Flckr and enjoyed viewing the photos. I took the tour and it appears to be
a user friendly site. The directions seem simplistic and easy to understand.

  7. 9/14/09 I viewed mashups and 3rd party sites. I can see why it's easy view this site for hours. There are many ways to create and share photos. To me it's a beautiful form of artwork.

  8. 9/14/09 I am interested in CTC technology. CTC (Circulating Tumor Cells) the CellSearch System identifies and enumerates the number of CTCs in a blood specimen for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. This is a new process and when it'shard to view or pinpoint the cancer cells this should more accurately define them to aid in treatment. This has been cleared by FDA for metastatic colorectal, breat and prostate cancers.

  9. 9/16/09 I started reading about RSS feeds from the MCPL website and was going to sign up there. It had a disclaimer that if I incurred any fees I would be responsible for paying them. Since I'm new at this I opted out of signing up there and went to search for free RSS feeds on Google. I was ablt to sign up there.

  11. 9/2/09 I registered my blog with the trainer and forgot to add a comment until now. I didn't realize all the amazing features 2.0 has to offer.

  12. 9/16/09 I was just on online with image generator. I had such fun changing the comments in the pictures. Usually I have a hard time thinking of something to add like that but the humorous comments just popped right out without me dwelling on what to say.

  13. 9/22/09 I joined the crew to LibraryThing and felt more comfortable reading about it before I ventured into adding some book titles. Today I did add titles and found process easy. (Unless I'm just feeling more comfortable with this assignment.) I also wanted to get used to the priate vernacular since I am a novice at these sights.

  14. 9/25/09 Today I entered a searchroll name: good reads and included as some topics for my tags: chilren's, fiction, nonfiction. I probably should have written genres instead. This can be edited at a later time. For some sources I added amazon.com, Librarything.com,and wikipedia.com

  15. 9/29/09 Del.icio.us confuses me. I looked at it several times to see if I could get more of a sense of it and how the tags work. It is becoming clearer and looks like a good way to help organize bookmarks for users. The Del.icio.us I discovered and would like to add here is 101 Blogs You Should Be Subscribing To. Tags are good ideas for people like me who tend to give too much information. One word descriptors to describe a bookmark makes it very easy to identify and for others to find quickly.

  16. 10/7/09 Adding Technorati Tags to a blog in a Technorati account will put the post searchers find when searching for tags used. There are directions which seem good to help insert links to Technorati after blog posts.

  17. 10/13/09 The future for Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 sounds exciting to me. It expands on only use of the desktop with multiple choices. The future of libraries even starting now uses multi services with more direct applications (Web 2.0,)flexibility, "fun," changes to information accessibility and delivery, more comments with tagging, and RSS feeds. This will pull more people from distant locations together by using information on mobile phones, for example, teleconferencing, and whatever is developed in the years to come. Therefore, it willl save fuel traveling, paper and time. Amazon,Wikipedia, Yahoo, Google and the like will aid libraries more than ever. Libraries now ultilize RSS feeds, del.icio.usand now cataloging will have more flexibilty with more access to other types of information. There is a necessity for the person who blogs to give reliable information to instill trust to continue using these resources especially on Wikipedia.
Now we are in the age of flexibility and change, visual (Avitar and Flicker)as well as text based information. Who knows, Web 3.0 and Library 3.0 just around the corner for future libraries.

  18. 10/22/2009 I enjoyed reading about wikis. The first Wiki was started in 1995 by Ward Cunningham as he wanted a rapid means to collaboratively publish informaton on the Web. Wiki software can vary but has these features: open to everyone, or certain authorized persons; can be freely edited so Web pages written in a collaborative manner; new items can be included simply; and wikis don't use HTML.
Some ways wikis can be used in libraries are
    basically communication, sharing, and management.
RSS feeds can be integrated with wikis, intranets
e-mail lists, and blogs to name some others. Reference librarians can systematically collect tacit and explicit knowledge, increase ease in finding answering to FAQ, streamline how to consult sources, get better understanding of user asked questions, improve collection development and better assistance to patron access to information.
My concern would to be to make sure users to wikis can be highly trusted to produce the most accurate data.

  20. 10/28/2009 I inspected the new Microsoft Office and Student 2007 site online. There was an overview of their new product:
Microsoft Office Word 2007, Powerpoint 2007, Excel 2007 and Publisher 2007. The following description applied to most or all of the above software. For descriptors words were dynamic. For example; powerful, highpowered, professional looking, easy-to-use, new and improved and exciting new capabilities. All had better security and quick means to construct work. This sounded interesting-the document or Powerpoint could have applied themes with the same fonts, colors and effects if so desired for a consistent look. Work can be displayed much clearer and more organized. Shared information is easlier to accomplish. I liked the feature where digital signatures can be added to verify the content has not been changed. Better full screen reading is included. The document check feature found and removed what's unwanted so information stays private. Sounds to me like Microsoft did it all to fit easliy into the Web2.0 genteration.

  21. 11/04/09 Iput in Google Web 2.0 awards list and came up with many 1rst, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention sites. I chose Google Maps which won 1rst place for maps. I had fun with it! It contained information about traffic, map with getting directions, sattelite or terrain. I liked
that you could enter an address chose whether you would drive a car or take public transportaion. Google maps would tell you the bus route, bus number, and link to Ride On. Also how long it would take to travell can be had.Google has made this site very user friendly at least for someone like me who doesn't use maps that often.
You can find final rentall lisitings. the small icons on the maps allow you to see names and locations of businesses and main features of the neighborhood. Real Estate can be found in cities and town across the U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand and India. Before going to an open house you can check out the neighborhood and transit info to see what the commute would be like. If you're a realtor you can place your listings on Google Maps. Also great is search for instance grocery stores and Bethesda, Maryland, and Goggle will provide you with that information.
Google Maps is also on Twitter and you can write a blog from there too. There was much more I didn't mention or have time to explore. Can you see why it won first place?

  22. 11/6/09-I searched in Google by writing YouTube and Video Sharing Websites which resulted in a long list. I did view YouTube, Yahoo!Video and TinyPic. I tried OviShare but its message was temporarily unavailable.
YouTube will allow you to air yourself with anyone else you wish--family, friends, strangers.I tried the search feature and typed in the title of the TV show desparate Housewives and received 5 star rated hits that were recorded by viewers.I also got results when I typed in Osama Bin Laden. My spelling was even corrected. Some of the categories featured News and Politics, Science and Technology, etc.
Yahoo!Video featured newworks and the number of videos for each network. Some names for example are Butterfinger Comedy Network, Hungry Nation (people who love food), Purina Animal AllStars (furry, cute or scary),etc. At either the top or thje bottom of the page you can click and read about Yahoo!Video. It says a viewer can see and upload videos on the Web. "Popculture, mashup, best of the best" are examples. They are frequently updated. Yahoo!Video touts themselves with adjectives as "most updated video site on the Web." "They have the most original and up-to-date videos for viewer." I don't know who determines the aforementioned but good marketing technique.
TinyPic seems to pack a lot bang and it's all free! "Image Hosting,Photo Sharing and Video Hosting" which has an easy to upload link to share images. These can be transferred to MySpace, Orkut, eBay, blogs, scrapebook, message boards, auctions, journals and other websites. Employers may wish to peruse for hiring purposes.
Even though the nam says TinyPic I think it should be changed to HugePic.

  23. 11/8/08-I did looked for useful search tools for locating podcasts. Podcast Directories are useful to make locating podcasts easier. There were three mentioned on the site I was on:
    1. Podcasting Sation-search for topic-specific podcasts. http://www.podcasting-station.com
    2. Podcast Bunker-previews podcasts for audio quality and content so only what they consider the best are added to their site. Updated continually. http://podcastbunker.com
3.Podcasting News-Popular; podcasts are listed by topic. http://www.podcastingnews.com/forum/links.php
Another sire suggested starting by using Google Reader to organize subscriptions. Signups are for free accounts if necessary, then look for podcasts and subscribe to them into Google Reader
or look on the following sites and subscribe to podcast feeds by clicking on the orange feed button:
    http://www.digitalpodcast.com/
    http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Podcasting/
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/directory/genre

  24. 11/24/09 I decided to use NetLibrary and eaudio books which in Google placed me at the MCPL site for eAudiobook Center. The homepage looked inviting and easy to peruse. Upper left side the was a place to do a basic and advanced search by full text, keyword, title, author, and subject as MCPL's regular catalog would be. Searching can be done in English, Spanish, French, German and Chinese. Beneath that information is a section called Direct Download. Click there and it will explain with the help of illustrations how to download in three easy steps. Installer for Microsoft will update Microsoft for you.
On the right side of the home page there is a page long column called Browse by Subject. There are 34 topics and in parentheses after the subject or genre the number of titles are given in alphabetical order. For example: Children's selections, young adult, language learning, business, and inspirastional. No matter the choice all unabridged. Email, add to favorites and search for similar items are found there as well. At the very top and bottom of the screen a free account can be created, log in and help screens are a click away.

  25. 11/28/09 First of all I would like to thank Google and Kate Tavakolian without whose valuable assistance I couldn't have gotten through 23 Things. Since we could only spend a certain amount of time on each thing I could only srcatch the surface. I don't feel comfortable revealing too much about myself on the internet. Plus I would get confused remembering which email went with which thing I was on. Sometimes the addresses would work and if they didn't I had to create new ones. I didn't realize we are using Web2.0. It really is
more mind expanding and encompassing, creative, and ever expanding experience. No telling what the future will bring. I was timid at first to try this assignment but my confidence was heightened as I worked my way through each thing. It was a worthwhile experience for each of us to attempt.
I picked 6 things to tell you I did for this assigment (in case one falls through):
    1. I created my own blog. Wow! To see my own created blog site was great!
    2. I created a blog post about CTC technology (in reference to cancer.)
    3. I signed up for RSS feeds on Google.
    4. I signed up for news feeds.
    5. I LOVED image generator!!!!
    6. I joined the crew to Library Thing.
I'm not sure what to say for where I would go from here except to spend more time on the things I needed to learn more about and try to stay updated with the new things. Lastly, when something like this offered again I feel I will have the support I need to get through it!
